Dee and all,

The Breastfeeding Answer Book p.363 states that "removal of the uterus and/or
ovaries during a full or partial hysterectomy does not affect milk
production". Breastfeeding is under the control of pituitary and hypothalmic
hormones, so the mom's milk supply is unaffected by the surgery itself. Of
course the mom will need to have the proper support post-surgery that any
other BF mother who has surgery needs to keep up her milk supply.

Dee, you say that she's OK about having a hysterectomy. Still, she may want to
read up on her options as far as treatments for endometriosis and/or seek a
second opinion about whether or not this is the right course of action for
her.

Warmly,
Carol Kelley LLLL
