Hello Wise ones:
Anyone have experience with a baby with this condition? A friend has been
having trouble with her newborn from the beginning. Looking back the baby
seems to have this disease (seems to fit what criteria I can find) and will
soon be tested by biopsy.

Baby boy had a very rough birth. Very little to no stool from the beginning.
Bf exclusively for 6 weeks. Various supplementing started then. Baby was not
gaining well, looked thin, always always cranky and crying. Everyone told
the mother that the baby had colic, constipation then reflux. Reflux meds
did not work. Baby had started refusing the breast early on, seemed too
painful to nurse. Has gone 12 hours or more not eating at least twice. Baby
has been on Reglan and Prevacid. Apparently Hirshsprung's can cause enought
"back up" to cause reflux symptoms. Has been on many different formulas and
breastmilk. Have done elimination diets, fruit juices for baby - you name
it. The doctors have given many things to try but continue to assure her it
is all normal. Baby still barely stools but is putting on weight. Now is
totally refusing breast.

I know the info given is spotty this is such a long story. Bottom line
question: ANyone have experience with this disease? Is there any hope that
the baby will ever accept the breast again after this much pain associated
with feeding? Is it worth her rebuilding her supply for after the baby's
surgery (if he has this)? She can hardly pump due to his continuous crying.
What about Domperdone? She will do whatever it takes.... What about Celiac's
disease? Could that be the cause instead?

Thanks for any insight or personal stories,
Micky
