Susan,
You are right in that is 'old school' but I was given that as a way
to wean a toddler (3 yo) from the bottle. It did work, just using the
bottle for water, within a few days, he no longer was interested in it
at all and when I took it away one morning, there was no protest to
bring it back. The key was though, he was receiving milk from a cup.
Therein lies the danger in using this method to get a baby back onto the
breast. There does need to be some way to get human milk into the baby.
With nursing strikes, I seek to find out what is causing the strike
and we need to be somewhat invasive to find out what is going on (mom
using a pacifier, mom & dad fighting or deciding on a divorce, switch
from day shift to night shift [had one baby who reacted to dad being the
one to switch] etc.) it is more than does baby have a fever, teething or
possible ear infection. Once we discover what is going on, we can set
about trying to remedy the situation. But as we all know, the main thing
is FEED THE BABY.
