There is a new liquid product in Australia, made in Queensland (where there
are *lots* of mozzies) that is supposed to repel the critters. It is
apple-flavoured and contains thiamine HCl. The dose is 50 mg of thiamine (1
ml of the infant version) for babies, and 100 mg (2 ml of the 6+ years
version) for the older kids. They are sold in different bottles, but seem
to be the same concentration. I'm not sure if there is a higher recommended
dose for adults. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds interesting, and
probably preferable to the externally applied repellant (if it works). I
wonder if mum took this whether her breastmilk would have higher thiamine
levels and protect bub??
