Brenda,
I am chiming in a little late on this but I hope what I say can be of some 
help. I am sure you are overwhelmed with all of the advice and references 
and tactics (appropriate though they are) you are hearing about. What I am 
going to suggest is a streamlined approach. Closed-minded people with 
negative bf attitudes are very difficult to change. I have experienced this.

Therefore, I suggest that you have your supervisor's supervisor in on the 
meeting. Ask for a meeting and do not talk about any of this to anyone until 
the meeting. If they agree to involve the other LC, which may or may not be 
appropriate, you could discuss strategy with her. If your manager brings it 
up, state that you would rather discuss this with our other supervisor 
present at the agreed upon meeting time.

Tempting though it is to come in there with armloads of info, that may not 
work with this mindset of people. I would definitely object to the 'nazi' 
namecalling. Cultural diversity and cultural sensitivity are huge in 
healthcare today. Also show how unprofessional this manager is.
I would then come in with some basic defenses which they would find 
virtually impossible to refute. The AAP statement should have wording 
against marketing of formula. Your ILCA standards which say you must adhere 
to the Code. And a basic explanation of the Code showing who is considered 
healthcare providers and what is 'marketing.' Or something basic like that. 
You could approach it like this "you may not be aware that my profession has 
a code of ethics that I am bound to adhere to." and/or "you may not be aware 
of the numerous articles and editorials in professional journals lately, 
discussing the ethics of marketing a particular medicine, giving out coffee 
mugs", etc

I would also state that if bf is to be supported at the facility, at least 
one group of hcps should remain unaligned with a particular formula product, 
and that would be the LC. I have had the Ross rep on numerous occasions try 
to get me to say that at least admit that his formula is best when one is 
needed. I state I do not feel his is best, that none are best, and I feel it 
is unethical to align myself with any particular brand.

Hope some of this is helpful. P.s. keep everything documented. try to 
remember the exact incident and then document the meeting. Good luck.
