While approximately *one in six* women might best be served by giving birth
in hospital, the other five would do fine elsewhere.

When we got pregnant with #2 my staid local OB/GYN told us a doctor is not
necessary 95% of the time and so we had #2 at home without him. I have
always wondered why the 30% to 35% c-section rate if his words were true.
Breastfeeding happened at birth with #2 and we never looked back. It
shocked the old pediatrician we used when we took her in on day one for her
new baby check. He grabbed the doorway post coming in to the exam room and
asked us: "She learned that already?" We picked the oldest ped in town
thinking he would know something about breastfeeding in the mid 1970's.
Obviously, he did not know much.
