Hello to all;

Just had a client who is presenting with the following case, and since my
search of the archives turned up very little,  I am seeking your wisdom on
this one :

Can a mother produce more cholestrol in her body when she breastfeeds?  This
mother has been breastfeeding her daughter for 3 1/2 months, and just
recently found out that her blood cholestrol level is high.  She had it
checked in August of 2000 and it was fine.  Her doctor has given her a
prescription to take for the high cholestrol problem [ name of drug not sure
of  yet ]. She was advised that she could still breastfeed her daughter, but
feels that she is going to stop because of the medication.

It is possible that by breastfeeding, her cholestrol level was increased ?
If this is the case, she feels that she might not take the medication and
continue to breastfeed.  (she has not started the medication as of yet).
With your vast experience, are there any "safe prescription drugs" for this
mom to take while breastfeeding for this high blood cholesterol ? Drug names
and references would be greatly appreciated!

This is a new problem that I have not come across before.
