The AAP's statement on jaundice clearly states that bilis under 16 in a
breastfed, gaining infant do NOT neet intervention.  The appropriate
"treatment" for Janette Panchula's case is do NOTHING and have the mom keep
right on nursing.  I wouldn't have even done a second bili level!
The Doc in this case needs some serious re-education about normal feeding and
normal jaundice.  I would consider complaining about his management to the
local medical society and to the department of the hospital in which he
practices.  Definitely a change of physician is indicated!
