I absolutely agree with Jan here. And... I have seen Dr. Karp's book
work with babies that were not feeding well because they were too
frantic to get on and stay on. What I am actually seeing, in the
families I work with who use Karp's technique, is LONGER feeds... not
necessarily more frequent, but longer feeds. And I am also seeing (thus
far) excellent weight gain, less spitting up, and fewer episodes of
"gassiness" reported by parents.

I couldn't disagree more. Most of the folks who call me for private
consults are currently trying "demand" or "cue" feeding. They like the
idea of sleeping with their babies and they hold baby all the time.
But.... for whatever reasons, baby is just not sleeping and is crying
alot. At a time when many pediatricians would suggest restricting mom's
diet, or many LC's wuld be inclined to think foremilk/ hindmilk
imbalance... in come the 5 S's and the problem is solved. Mom and Babe
can now sleep together!

Just anecdotes,

Susan
