I have just received my registration form for the WABA Global Forum in
September.

At the bottom of the form is a note:

"Sponsorship: WABA does not accept sponsorship of any kind from companies
producing breastmilk substitutes, related equipment and complementary foods.
WABA encourages all participants of the Global Forum II to respect and
follow this ethical stance."

I remember that when I was asked (?last year) if I wanted to register as a
supporter of WABA, that the form they used then said they do not accept
money from pump companies.

I know that for many of my colleagues here in the UK, WABA is of little
interest (after all, we have enough to do with our own four countries!) --
we don't celebrate World BF day (having our own national effort from our
Department of Health [don't get me started]), etc. So I expect the same is
true of the US. However, one of the disturbing things to me about the
discussion we have been having is that the US position is so well
represented -- which would be fine, except for that pesky "I" in "IBCLC".
If this qualification is to be useful all over the world (and it has only a
tenuous hold here in the UK, for many reasons), maybe there needs to be more
global thinking about these issues?

PS -- see you in Arusha?
