For the first ten years of their life, your kids embarrass you.
For the second ten years of their life, you embarrass them.

By no means remove the plate.  She had an alternative:  don't drive the
car.  It's your car and your plate.  If she expect you to respect her
boundaries and possessions, then she has to do the same.  Teens say they
want to be "different", but they don't want YOU to be different.

My kids dealt with mom and dad being actively involved science fiction
fans, even going to <gasp> Star Trek conventions.  We even <horrors>
wore costumes sometimes.  They eventually became rather proud of the
fact that their parents had real lives.  We won't go into dealing with
mom teaching sex ed in school...<G>
