Hi Ayelet,

Although I can understand your worries, I think you should not be too hard
on yourself.
The way you took time with these parents to explain all kinds of things to
them, shows your concern.
No matter how loud we (figuratively) scream sometimes... parents make their
own decisions.
Ultimately, it is the parents who are responsible for their child.
What is it exactly, that you feel they may throw at you in terms of lack of
professionalism on your side...?
Do you feel there are things you should have said or explained in more
detail that you didn't?
You plan to inform the ped of your serious worries; seems like a wise
decision to me.
As far as I can see from here, you did all you can right now.
A professional link to your husband does not seem to be something you have
to be worried about.
You did not fail the parents; it is probably your deep concern for the
baby's well-being that causes you to feel the way you do.
Isn't that part of our lc-attitude, worrying about baby's well-being and
parental susceptibility...?
After weeks of no clients, I finally did a consulatation again last
Saturday.
I have all kinds of worries with regard to it, but all I can do right now is
share my views and stay in touch.
In general, we cannot force people to take the steps we feel are necessary.
If a baby seems to be in serious danger, we do take steps, of course, and
you did, so that's good.
Will you let us know how things work out...?

All the best to you and your client,

Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands
