Hi Toni,

Do we KNOW that putting frozen EBM at room temperature to defrost is NOT
safe? Has anyone actually cultured EBM that has been defrosted at room
temperature vs EBM defrosted under warm running water vs EBM defrosted in the
refrigerator?

Has anyone actually done a study (beyond Rachel's) that demonstrates the
safety or lack thereof of feeding EBM to a baby after he's already drunk out
of the bottle -- 4 hours later -- 24 hours later???

Has anyone actually done a study on frozen EBM that has been defrosted and
not used, and then put back in the refrigerator? How long is it good for?
24 hours? 2 days? 4 days? Has anyone actually cultured it?

We do know there have been at least three, and possibly more, studies on
freshly expressed breastmilk staying out at room temperature with cultures --
one showing 4 hours was OK, one showing 6 hours was OK, and one showing 10
hours is OK. Has anyone done a study beyond that?

Has anyone actually done a study that cultured EBM that was frozen, then
partially or wholly defrosted (as in a freezer failure) and then refrozen to
see what happens?

I think a lot of what we teach mothers may be based on conventional and
collective "wisdom" (often based on how we should treat formula) and is not
evidence based practice.

I'd love to have a collection of sound studies that looked at many of these
issues and then came up with some good, hard, solid, research based
guidelines for mothers.

Anyone out there have lots of money and nothing to do with their time?
