Hi all,

I am just reading the posts about growth spurts and evidence and
realise that I have not seen the first posts. However, I agree,
there does not appear to be evidence, although I have not extensively
researched this topic.

Generally, what I see is the baby has a need for extra
breastfeeds. These feeds may be for the nutrition, as well as, often
needed for comfort and the feelings of safety and security that
breastfeeding also provides. As Heather states, "responsive
feeding". The mother responds and provides the nutrition
(breastmilk) as well as the comfort and security. The baby is then
able to make that next leap or gentle progress in their development.

Many adults when starting a new job or in a new situation will reach
out to a mentor or friend for a chat to reassure and comfort them as
they learn their new roles. Sometimes this is done over a meal or a coffee.

When we respond to our babies (children, friends), we are able to
help support them as they learn about a new situation and process the
information.

Often when speaking with mums who seem to be glued to the apps about
development and growth leaps, I discuss the individuality of each
person and how they need to look as their baby as a unique
individual, who doesn't know about the app and will grow and develop
with responsive breastfeeds where their mother look and listen to
them rather than an app.

I do realise this isn't about reflux (which is where I believe this
thread started), yet I agree with Heather, respond to your baby and
feed frequently if they are in a phase where they need the closeness
and security and nutrition.
