I do not think it is fair to pick one doll company to criticize. I
happen to really like the A___ G___ dolls. They are expensive but my daughter
waited years until she was old enough to properly appreciate the gift and
read the books. In the book series we have ( Kirsten ) family life in the
1800's seems to be portrayed pretty realistically. All of my children enjoy
the stories and have learned alot of American history from them. This
includes one book on Kirsten's mothers pregnancy, delivery, and
BREASTFEEDING. Shalyn has begged for one of their babies for almost as long
as the older doll but has sooo many babies I could not justify one more. If I
choose to get her one I would simply remove the bottles and return them to
the company with an explanation.
Shalyn nursed her babies when she was younger (even had her "nursing"
photo in LLL news ). Now ( at nine) she has bottles although she tells me it
is her milk in there. She still nurses about half the time and was
responsible for introducing that possibility to the neighborhood children
during their "mommy" play. For some reason the bottles keep disappearing.
Now that she babysits we even have a bottlefed baby around the house.
She and her twelve yr old brother are totally in charge including preparing
the powdered ABM and feeding the baby. I am there for consulting like when
the mother told them they could just give the baby cows milk from the fridge
at 8 months or put the baby to bed with a bottle. At our house he gets
cuddled to sleep and ABM. He likes my kids better than his siblings.
