It took the government 40 years to do it with cigarettes and
that was only after enormous public pressure and many many
lawsuits that the tobacco companies won. The government will
not do so willingly and will not take the lead in this.
The dairy and pharmaceutical industry lobbies are quite powerful,
just like the tobacco industry. They have friends in Congress
and in the medical world, as we all know.
Unfortunately, I think we are in for a long struggle that will
require a strategy of approaching the issue from many angles,
involving people from many backgrounds and interests. But I think
that is the only way to make meaningful social change.
(OK I'll get off my soap box now)
