Dr Abou-Dakn in LLLitaly 2005 Conference told us to put cold on breasts in
the first days after birth, because there's an edema, and it is not a
problem of milk.
Usually, I told mothers to put heat 'before' to bf, and cold 'after', this
is after birth only.

Subject: Heat or cold for mastitis

I have always advised heat & massage for a blocked duct and mastitis (along
with frequent emptying of breast, rest, fluids, cold pc if desired etc).
Other
midwives I know say heat is right out now and you should use only cold.
What do others on lactnet say?
