Dear all

I have just come from one of the children's homes here (Bosnia) and saw a sight
that never fails to upset me. An efficient nurse making sure the last few drops
of formula went into a tiny baby who was clearly resisting, crying, pulling
away. Ultimately the poor mite just gave up as the nurse wriggled and jammed the
bottle teat up inside its mouth. Then she happily looked at the nice empty
bottle, not of course at the baby, and walked off. The sad thing was she was
apparently trying to get all the babies nice and quiet for the important visitor
(me). The other thing to note is they are very short staffed...... which might
just excuse the other baby who was with a propped bottle.

None of these babies will ever get even a whiff of breast milk, but I would like
to work with the Director who is very sensible to try and stop them getting
assaulted in this way.So if anyone has got a good and short article on why
jamming a bottle in a babies mouth like that is harmful, please let me know and
I can have it translated.
