Hi Jennifer
Yes, I do believe there are a subset of babies who bf well even with tight
frenula. I think it depends on the mother's breast tissue (shape,
elasticity) etc.
I had said that as LCs we are naturally more concerned about the impact a
tight frenulum has on bf. What I was trying to explain was why some parents
might not want a clipping done (or a doctor) because bf was not 'highly
valued' and many folks will easily switch to formula, with not more than a
moment's hesitation.
In fact, I worked with a young mother today who wanted help w/ bf. The baby
was sleepy and didn't latch but we talked alot. The young mother's own
mother came in and kept saying repeatedly "the baby doesn't want to do it so
just forget about it." About an hour later, the baby nursed well.
