Did anyone catch the Medical Detectives show (the Learning Channel) last
week? It aired right after the special on SuperTwins (also good). It is a
forensic medical show that details investigation into baffling cases. This
time it was about a bunch of babies all in the same area (in the US
recently) who were coming down with bleeding lungs. Right away I said to
my dh - I bet none of them were bf. As the show went on, sure enough, all
were formula and smoking in the house also played a role. It turned out
that babies with damaged immune systems (formula) and damaged lungs
(smoking) had been inhaling fungal spores of an unusually toxic type. The
only thing I complained about was the lack of promotion of bf despite this
being an obvious prevention in this outbreak. Should be a must watch
prenatal video on why you should breastfeed and not smoke. If this
happened once it probably happens much more than that.

On the super twins show, they showed the requisite formula mixing and fifty
million bottles but also showed one triplet mom who was mostly exclusively
bf all three. They showed her bf two at once in what was obviously a
family bed. Her breasts were exposed. the babies were about 8-10 months
and noone was excited about it (except me yeeeeeee whoooo).
