Today I got a tearful call from a mom who is going back to work in 10 days. We
had discussed her beginning to pump her breasts a little to save up some milk
and to get familiar with her rental pump. She works in a pet shop and had
concerns over dog hair getting in her milk which we discussed and decided how
to get around.
It seems that when she mentioned her plans to the pediatrician he told her that
she should never use a breast pump on her breasts. That breast pumps ruin the
shape of a womans breasts . She told him she wanted the baby to have her milk
when she is away, and he told her to just give formula and not to worry about
pumping and ruining her figure. Has anyone ever heard of a physician giving
this type of information to a mom before? Any ideas where this idea came from?
Should I call him and discuss this? I am really floored by this advice. Help!
