I'm way behind on my posts but I had to respond to Caren's post about the
uneducated "nurse". (up on a soap box so beware) When will our profession
(nursing) realize that they are a real profession and that the public sees a
nurse...any nurse as having correct information about health care. In this
era, if nurses want to be accepted, earn a decent wage, provide responsible
care they must respond to patients, in a professional way. Today a nurse
must educate herself in the field in which she practices or she/he is not
practicing professionally, and we might as well go back to serving Drs.
coffee and scrubbing dirty bed pans (been there, done that) Nurses, Drs,
anyone who is a licenced professional working with new mothers and babies
should base practice, teaching on sound science not old nurses tales. (PS
tell that nurse we use to tell moms to put babies on their stomachs and drink
wine to stop labor) Whew...that felt good. Next.
