A client found her "wide excision biopsy" (I think that was the term)
incision drained milk and drained milk and drained milk. I offered
what help and reassurance I could by phone, but didn't see her. After
perhaps 2 weeks she told me they were using a drain with constant
gentle suction. It occurred to her that perhaps getting rid of the
suction would stop the milk flow! Sure enough, she started using the
suction only at night, and healing went a whole lot faster. I wonder
how many of these constant leakers are actually encouraging it because
of the type of drain used. The suction may be important in the early
days, but there comes a point when it's probably counterproductive.
