Hi,
Thanks to all who have shown such support in this difficult case.
News is not good. Mom basically kissed me off yesterday telling me
everything was going better and baby was having more wet diapers and feeding
better, her soreness going away, thought she felt 'fuller', etc... turns out
baby was to be reweighed shortly after I called her, not the next day as she
told me... It was clear to me she didn't want me to call again -- "doctor
says baby is fine, I don't want to worry about it anymore"
My co-leader called, bc she had also spoken with mom over the
weekend and mom blew her off as well. Turns out baby was weighed yesterday
and is down yet another ounce... 23ounces lost now in 22 days, down 15.5% of
birthweight...
We are checking our protocols for intervening here either with
medical staff or social services bc this is now clearly a dying baby who
can't wait another week for a "diagnosis" from the MD whom mom says isn't
concerned about weight loss until the baby is 1 month (talk about throwing
the baby out with the bath water!).
I'm curious what other LLLL would do -- we're checking, but I'm
thinking to hell with Mom and to hell with regulations I'm calling the MD --
on the other hand I don't want to damage LLLI's reputation and all the other
babies we help... but clearly this kid needs to be seen by someone who mom
will listen to tell her to FEED the baby.
Mom has refused to get a double pump (didn't know they existed,
doesn't think they are better than her cheap hand helds, and doesn't frankly
think she needs it, bc MD isn't worried -- she keeps going back to that),
and today she refused another home visit from us...
        I want to scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
