I have looked through the archives and apologize if this has been answered somewhere already.

Mom is about 4 weeks postpartum. Had developed an MRSA+ abcess which was drained with I&D yesterday. She had still been pumping on that side and supply had decreased to gtts per pumping. Opening of wound is about 1 1/2" diameter about 1/2" above areola. She has many finger-like projections which are being packed. She began pumping on affected side today. We temporarily covered gauze with tegaderm during pumping since pump shield partially covers area. Went okay, got gtts, and no c/o pain.

I've seen reference to a custom-cut breast shield that can be used so a mom can pump and avoid pressure on the wound. Perhaps she won't need such a thing but wondering if anyone is familiar with this?

Thanks
