Dear Lactnet readers,

I am currently working with two extraordinary women. One of which is the
mother of 4 children, the youngest being 15 months old. She is also the Aunt
of Matthew, who will be 1 on Jan 21. The other women is the mother of
Matthew. Matthew was born with a kidney disease. He was given a very grim
prognosis prenately. Matthew's mother also has a 3 year old. Matthew is on
dialisis for 12 hrs. a day. He has been hospitalized numerous times. During
all of this, his mother's milk supply has suffered. So his Aunt started to
express her breastmilk for him. He now receives about 24 oz. of breastmilk a
day, half of which is his mother's and the other half his Aunt's. His Aunt
has been pumping her milk for him for almost 1 year now. Matthew will be
receiving a kidney transplant in March. (He will be receiving his mother's
kidney) So my question is does anyone have any information on continuing
breastfeeding during and after transplant to aid in anti-rejection? Both of
these women want to continue to supply him with their breastmilk. After all
he as done so beautifully for a little boy with such a grim prognosis. Any
information would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Heather Sliwinski
