Naomi--

What about giving a personal gift certificate for availability to answer
breastfeeding questions during the first month after baby comes, along with
something like a sling and an offer to help her learn to use it for
breastfeeding? It would depend upon how well you know the mother and how
much time you would like to invest in her breastfeeding success. I know
that for many of the young mothers that I see, who are isolated from family
and have few breastfeeding friends, this sort of gift would be welcomed.
Availability of help from a peer or "auntie" are the US's missing substance
of a breastfeeding culture IMHO.

Subject: baby shower gift???

I have been invited to a baby shower this weekend. We won't be able to
make it but I would like to get the mother-to-be a gift. I'd like to
get something breast feeding friendly, but would like to stay away from
breastfeeding "equipment" since I like to send the message that
breastfeeding doesn't require a lot of paraphernalia.

I've never been to a baby shower. Any suggestions for something
appropriate would be most appreciated.
