Just wanted to share with everyone a new failure to thrive case revolving around the now famous book.

Got a call from a mom yesterday. Her baby weighed 8-12 at birth. At the 2-week check baby is now 7-13. Mom had stated yesterday that her milk supply suddenly has disappeared and that she has no idea why.

Today, after scheduling her an appt to come and see me, I asked her what I usually ask - "Do you have a gut feeling what may have caused your supply to take such a sudden crash, as this would be quite unusual occurrence". I was thinking thyroid, low prolactin levels, retained placenta. THEN, mom said, well, she had been thinking about it, and maybe it was because she was letting her baby sleep 5-6 hours a night since he was one week old.

I asked her if she had been told by someone to allow the baby to sleep. Then she mentioned no, that she had read it in two books: The Baby Whisperer and Baby Wise. She said she knew the Babywise was controversial when she started it. Now she knows better.

I was about ready to freak out - it took everything in me to not scream! Somebody please tell me how these book-writers don't get sued for giving out this type of information to new moms??
