thrush? >>

First, I say YES it is neccessary to treat thrush is one way or another. I
have never seen a case of thrush disappear on its own form either mother or
baby, only get worse. Also, the early, minor stages of thrush may not bother
a baby too much, but I can say from my experience that it does bother them!
Now, I am just guessing that jock itch is as frustrating to men as a vaginal
yeast infection is for women. Now picture that in your mouth! I have an
adult friend who developed thrush in her mouth and she said it was just as
bad as a vag yeast infection, (itching and stinging) and that it interfered
with her sense of taste and made eating very uncomfortable. She was not a
happy camper until it was GONE. An infant has no words to tell us what s/he
is going thru with thrush in the mouth. All we see are cranky babies who
don't BF very well, coming off and on the breast, looking for comfort and/or
food and being very uncomfortable while trying to get it.

SO should we treat? Yes. Does it bother babies, IMO Yes. Will it get
better on its own? I doubt it. I have seen moms who wiated to treat end up
with horridly cracked and bleeding thrushy nipples who could NOT put the baby
to breast and had to pump and bot feed until the they were able to heal. One
mom took more than 5 weeks to heal, and she tried everything to get rid of
that yeastie beastie. Baby never did go back to breast. :(

And, as for putting vag yeast creams into a babys mouth, WHAT???? These are
not oral meds that I know of. They are for the vagina or for topical use. I
have never heard of a Dr telling a mom to put this stuff in the babys mouth.
Would s/he (the Dr) out that stuff in his mouth? I doubt it. There
certainly are more appropriate and approved treatments for babies mouths.
Lets keep the meds where they belong, hmmm???

Take care all!
Jay
