GOOD NEWS!!!
The Quebec Order of Nurses will soon come out with an official statement
on their endorsement of breastfeeding as the only way to feed a baby for
at least 6 months. They will also state they endorse the Code for
commercially prepared milk products and the Ten steps for successful
breastfeeding. Hourra!!! Two nurses: Françoise Courville from the
Saguenay region and I from the Outaouais region, had proposed this, last
November, at the Annual Provincial Meeting of the Order, and it got
accepted. Lately, the Order of Nurses asked us to revise their written
statement as to conform to what we had proposed. In fact, what it means
is: each nurse in the province will have to conform to this position,
since it will be part of her professional competence appraisal. Is this
ever great!!!! Hoping this will be the starting point for the other
provincial professional bodies to endorse a similar position.
