hello, esteemed lactnetters,

our family went to a grillout with friends tonight, which included
swimming, trampolining and an epic water balloon fight. knowing the
planned festivities ahead of time, i wore a swimsuit w/ a pocketless,
simple dress or cover-up all day.

fast forward 9 hrs later and we're home and i'm nursing my exhausted
34 month old as i check my email. he's an incorrigible twiddler,
kneader, squeezer and feeler-upper, despite his 4 1/2 yo sister
usually being on the other breast. if that one is occupied, he will
simply turn his own into a wineskin (milkskin?) as he nurses.

tonight is no different and i'm online, trying to distract myself from
the maddening pinches and squeezes when i realize i haven't been
feeling them. i further realize he is latched, but the suckling has
come to an abrupt stop. i look down just in time to see a look of
intense consternation on his face. before i can ask him if
everything's all right, it slowly turns to dawning horror as he
withdraws his uppermost hand and arm from my dress and peers fearfully
at what he holds:

a tiny water balloon i'd completely forgotten tucking into the
cleavage of my swim top for safe-keeping! he'd apparently located it
and been twiddling and tweedling with it and trying to figure out what
it was until he realized it was detachable and really became
concerned. it was body temperature and quite pliable as it was so
small. i wonder if he thought his milkies were spawning their own baby
breasts and dropping them like fruit? or perhaps that he'd finally
squeezed and squished them to pieces?

at any rate, i may have found a great anti-twiddling aid for those
babies that can't be dissuaded even by nursing necklaces - i let him
continue to hold and squeeze it as he finished nursing and i remained
remarkably pinch-free for the duration! i post in hopes that my
experience may benefit other moms-of-twiddlers everywhere ! :-)

(near detroit, michigan, where the twiddler in question has now
apparently become allergic to the few remaining foods we were feeding
him and i am more thankful every day that i am breastfeeding him as
long as he needs while also seriously considering writing a book about
my experiences and what i've learned in raising a multiple severe food
allergy child in this, the "RX generation".)
