"when I tried to talk to them again
because of course, ethically i could not give Medela, their name and number,
they would no longer answer the phone."

Wait a minute, how can it be ethical to protect someone who is selling
stolen property? I think you have this backwards -- to my thinking it is
unethical NOT to give the pump company the name and phone number of the
person with stolen equipment. When we protect a thief, we help foster
thievery. If this were your pump and it was stolen, you would be very angry
if someone would not tell you who had it.

Secondly, we had this same discussion about Ebay a couple of years ago. I
wrote to Ebay asking them to stop selling any breastpumps because they can't
control who or what is selling. Ebay doesn't care about what is sold on
their web site. They claim they can't police it. Same goes for women selling
used personal use pumps.

Ebay isn't the only place selling used breast pumps. I talked to a woman who
bought one from a government agency on their surplus web site. Nobody told
her that it was a pump that didn't work correctly which is why they were
selling it, so she essentially wasted her money. But when one purchases a
$700 retail price breast pump for $25, one needs to ask questions.
