One wonders if some of the GI distress in the baby Shawn describes was caused by formula with DHA in it. A subgroup of babies reacts to DHA supplemented formula with spitting up and explosive gas and diarrhea. When the baby was taken off the formulas with the added DHA it appears that some of her symptoms resolved. There is little data to support a change in a mother's breastmilk composition with gastric bypass procedures. Usually the problem is obtaining enough vitamin B12 which the baby sometimes needs to be supplemented with.
