Lactnuts,
Well, I can tell you what is wrong with me. :) My mom fed me Pet Milk
(canned evaporated milk) dilluted with water, with karo syrup (corn syrup), a
dropper full of vitamins, boiled and put into sterilized bottles daily.
Then, because she was such a good mother and would never dream of spoiling
her children, she sewed an elastic band to a little teddy, placed me on my
side with bottle in the bear and I was fed in my crib where I stayed until
next feeding time. If she knew these "contraptions" were now being sold, she
would be so upset to see she missed the boat of financial freedom. I was
never held for feedings and "caged" more than I was out until I reached the
age of "human" and she was willing to interract with me. I, of course,
received my first "solid food" -- rice cereal in my bottle by 6 days old and
by 3-4 weeks was eating jars of food from a special feeding contraption that
pushed the food into baby's mouth when it was sucked on. Imagine her
surprise to have a daughter who wore her babies, never used a bottle, the
only thing propped next to them in their sleep was my breast (LOL), and they
weren't started on solids until they could find their mouths with their hands
and do it themselves, oh, and I never "caged" them. Of course, she is
appalled but after the first 2 gave up buying me things she just knew would
make life easier. Now, if this was "normal" 38 years ago, I guess it is
time for the pendulumn to swing again. Scary huh? To this day she asks me
why on earth I would want to spend so much time holding a baby, what a waste.
Thankfully she only had two of us and while I followed my heart, my sister
followed my mother. Interestingly, I am rarely sick and was truly a healthy
child and not a total dimwit either, however, think how smart I could have
been...... My sister's not as lucky, constant ear infections,
gastrointestinal problems even now, and her children allergies, asthma,
obesity...... See, sometimes kids do just fine on whatever gruel they are
fed and others just don''t. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

Thought I would let you know these contraptions are nothing new.

begin
even though I am still 5 days from due date..........
