Charity says,

??? I'm not sure I'm tracking on this, Charity. There are many non-medical
professional lactation consultants. I'm don't understand why you wouldn't be
able to work w/ a mom on breastfeeding if you aren't a medical
professional..... I can think of a lot of fantastic IBCLCs who are not medical professionals.
If someone told you this, perhaps they have steered you incorrectly.

And since you are an RN, if you have been working professionally w/ moms &
babies, all the hours you have spent with them doing breastfeeding work counts
towards your IBLCE exam hours. Of course, if you've been working in surgery or
the ER or cardiac care for the last 10 years, then your opportunity for doing
breastfeeding work WOULD be limited!
