Wish I could say where I heard it, but this dredges up a memory (10+ years
ago?) of some LC suggesting that mom should let baby set or establish her
milk supply for a month. Then rent a pump to get used to using it and build
up a reserve in the freezer before going back to work at 6 weeks. The
reasoning was that using a pump very early would make mom produce an
unnaturally high milk supply. Inconvenient for baby's comfort nursing, and
inconvenient for mom who can only pump when business requirements permit.
Maybe this is a revised version of that *old* advice.
