Fio,
  My condolences to the new mom. This must be a terrible
time for her and her family. It sounds to me like she has
given you an opening to raise the topic. She was thinking
about donating milk even before the birth in order to help
other babies. It sounds to me like you could  raise the
issue directly of her thinking about expressing
longer term. She doesn't have to commmit herself to it, but
it would be valuable to let her know it's an option. I have
heard several stories of women who regretted that they did
now know about the possibility of donating milk and how it
would have comforted them and made them feel that some good
could come out of such a tragedy.
This mother cannot make a fully informed choice if she does
not know what her choices are.
