There are several references to nipple blanching related to vasospasm,
becoming chilled, individual hormone levels, and low calcium and magnesium
intake, as follows:-

Successful Breastfeeding (Royal College of Midwives, second edition) p 59

An Overview of Solutions to Breastfeeding and Sucking Problems, Susan Meintz
Maher, IBCLC, 1988, p 14

JHL Vol 8 No 3 (Sept 1992) p 153, good article by Mary-Margaret Coates

JHL Vol 10, No 1 (Mar 1994), p 6, letter from Ros Escott

JHL Vol 10, No 3 (Sept 1994) p 153, letter from Joanne Burke Snyder

Seem to remember seeing something somewhere about nipple blanching being
related to low thyroid (sorry! can't find this reference).
