The question was asked, why we assume that companies are motivated by
profit, rather than by altruism:

But why is this assumption made? Is it because they advertise their product

This isn't about whether we personally approve or disapprove of marketing
techniques. This is about marketing that has been proven repeatedly, across
cultures and over nearly a century, to *harm babies.* This isn't about
having our own opinions and not wanting to impose them on others. The WHO
code regulates all these teats and milks and foods because advertising them
to families *harms babies.*

Someone once said, "By their fruits you shall know them." We have seen the
fruits of this marketing, and it's rotten and dangerous!
