Zinc oxide? I don't think that sounds like a good idea. Remember if you put
it on the baby's bottom (even sparingly) for a couple of days, it can cause
some irritation, and it doesn't come off easily. If mom is trying to remove
it before baby nursing, it will do more harm than good.

An MD who treats yeast with benzoin? Yikes!!! Just the thought of it makes
me shiver. I can think of other places one might like to apply it, but not
to nipples!!! How would I approach this? Politely ask for documentation -
you've never heard of this treatment, and are "fascinated" by the
possibilities, but before you suggest it on world-wide lactnet, you want to
back it up with some studies.... Of course, it might not help, but....

Re the Lactina vs. Classic. I too have seen a real difference, and have
insisted on carrying the classic as well as the lactina, believing that as a
clinical practitioner I can help the mother make the best choice for her
needs. I particularly use the classic when mom is severely engorged, has
severe sore nipples, or a long term pumping (preterm/sick infant). The
lactina is great for a working mom - keep in mind that this is what it was
designed for. My distress is that because the lactina is cheaper for the
rental station, many of them will only stock the lactina, and then make more
money! Isn't that the bottom line every time? Also, of course, the lactina
is easier to take care of...easier to clean, etc. I'm really frustrated by
the company claim that they are the same. Since when is a $500 pump
equivalent to a $1000 pump? And, if they are the same, then charge the
rental stations the same amount for each and see how many switch back!

Grrr.

All for now.... Have a good weekend, everyone. The sun is finally shining
(sort of) through the clouds, and the temps are (maybe) going to hit 70
today. Is it possible that spring is actually going to come to the Chicago
area???? :)
