From April 19th to 23, Nestle was hosting a special "forum" on the Today's Parent (Cdn magazine) website, where 2 Nestle Dietitians were going to answer infant feeding questions.

The promotion asked "Do you have a question about breast-feeding? Do you want to know more about your baby's feeding options? Are you interested in learning more about
infant nutrition requirements?"

(The first line about breastfeeding was removed later, due to complaints.)

Anyhow, yesterday, several moms began asking very specific questions about the contents of Nestle formula (re: transfat, acrylamide, GMO, contamination in powdered formula, violating the WHO Code, recommendations for starting of solids, etc) The dietitians had been answering, but by noon yesterday they were overwhelmed and stopped. Moms also answered other moms questions, with information that the Nestle reps did NOT provide - ie I posted the WHO warning about contamination of powdered formula, in its entirety, without additional comment from me. My post was removed by the moderator.

BY yesterday afternoon, the moderator gave up also. I was aware that Today's Parent itself had backed off, saying it was up to Nestle to handle the situation, since it was their "sponsored" forum. At noon today, the forum was closed, but you can still read the posts at
http://community.todaysparent.com/fserver-jsp/108/
Now persons with questions are being requested to take them directly to the Nestle site.

So the forum is shut down. However, some of the general mom community at Today's Parent feel that the 2 or 3 persons who asked all the "hard" questions were disrespectful to the kind Nestle hosts, and think they are "fanatics".

Overall, I thought you'd like to hear about this. There ARE alot of very informed enthusiatic moms on the web who try hard every day to get the "good word" out, to other moms in the internet parenting community. If you ever doubt their existence, drop in to the support and advocacy message boards at:
