Dear Alice, I'm one of those who wears several hats, LLLL & IBCLC plus I am
a HCP, makes life interesting :-) I just have to pay attention to details,
like not referring to myself. But it works fine. I agree with someone
else's comment that it depends on your comfort level and personality. I
know others who have dropped LLL work when they became IBCLC because they
just found that they couldn't keep them separate. I don't try. If it
comes up, I just say that I'm a LLLL with fringe benefits. Or I'm an LC
with fringe benefits :-) like being their local LLLL. As LC, if a mom
insists on paying I get her to get a membership or donate to our group.

It helps that I don't make my living as an LC presently. Previously LCing
was my work through hospital and hospital paid me. If moms called me at
home as LLL then it was my volunteer time. I've never had a problem in my
mind keeping it separated, my criteria is if they call through LLL or
through a professional referral. It probably does depend on your community
and support in your area in general. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
