Harvey;

yes, and it is this disbelief that my child was actually in pain that led me
to videotape her crying. that got my doctor's attention. then he finally let
me test her poop and there was blood.

I would love to know how someone determined that these babies are not in
pain? just because the things that soothe don't make sense to us, doesn't
mean they are not in pain.

A baby who's quickly addressed when they show a need, doesn't scream like
they're loosing a limb over trivial things. This is the part that is
difficult for all of us to properly acertain. How do you figure out if the
Mom is just over reacting to the babies scream? Or if Mom in underreacting
all day to baby's needs? Or if this child is in acual agony - all without
seeming to question the mom's judgement? I would suggest that our answer
will show up in the Mom's reaction to suggestions like diet change. a Mom
who's exaggerating will probably not want to go through the work of diet
change when they know in their heart that their baby is not in pain. But in
any case, by respecting the Mom's judgement, we can establish a relationship
with the Mom and maybe determin if faster response to her baby would prevent
the panic cries.
