I am traveling, so don't have my materials with me, but I have found many mothers do recover much more quickly and avoid recurrences using the method described and shown in the article in 2014 from China in the Journal of Human Lactation called: Six-Step Recanalization Manual Therapy: A Novel Method for Treating Plugged Ducts in Lactating Women By Chunying Zhao, MD, RuiTang, MMS, Jiandong Wang, MMS, ...




The way I describe it to moms on the telephone is that we used to think of the ductwork as going one way, so pressing behind the plug made sense.  However now that we see how tangled the ducts  are, it makes sense, as with tangled hair, to start at the nipple, gently widening and draining the ducts, then working our way slowly up the breast towards the plug.  I often get calls back about how well it worked.
