Here in southern NJ (east coast USA) the standard stay is 48 hours But if 
you delivered at 11 pm, at 12 midnight you've had 24 hours!  So many many 
discharges are at 30-36 hours :-(  With no at home follow up, no drop in LC 
center, insurance problems at dr office, many babies aren't seen for days 
and weeks.  Longer stays do not equal better BF, but with no safety net, 
short stays do equal on going failure of BF.

I don't have an answer because no one from HCPs to  insurance cos to 
government to parents seem to care.

This is our sad reality that doesn't meet mom's or baby's needs, contributes 
to the fast switch to formula and in the end costs us all much $, because 
breast is best for life long health.
