The age old complaint--except this one says soreness has existed since the beginning. Baby is now 3 months old. No yeast, she's tried lots of advice from everybody except a lactation consultant! I met with mom and baby last week and observed a "chewy" kind of latch by the baby. Lips look good, but once the letdown happens, he begins to pull and chew. It helped a little to pull him in a lot closer, but the nipple is creased, and looks bruised after nursing. Mom is in a lot of discomfort, and has just now given him his first bottles since she is beginning to dislike breastfeeding--despite being quite devoted. Her description of the pain does not sound like Reynaud's since the cold or temperature changes do not make it much worse. Does not fit yeast or infection criteria. Anyone with any ideas before she quits.
