Somehow I once hit on the idea of saying at an in-service that BF is
supposed to feel more like MAKING a baby than HAVING a baby. It's supposed
to feel good enough that you will want to do it many times every day for
months and even years. Giving birth, OTOH, takes many months to prepare for
and if we play by the master script, there won't be a repeat performance for
quite some time either. Very few mothers find this difficult to understand.

This analogy has value as far as initial discomfort goes too. A body part
being used for a specific purpose for the first time, no matter how perfect
the design, is going to notice the change.
Some people focus on the discomfort, others on the newness. To be
considered normal, IMO, the discomfort should never be so pronounced that
mother dreads feeding the baby.

I guess this approach wouldn't be culturally appropriate everywhere, but
where I live and work I don't think I have ever offended anyone with it.
