Angie,

I don't mean to be glib - but I see nothing wrong here - except for a
paranoid ped. This baby's weight gain is the same (maybe even a bit better)
than my daughter's. Everything is showing adequate milk in and the true
definition of failure to thrive is a long list of items ALONG with slow/no
weight gain (yes, I'm yelling). Since all developmental milestones are
being met the only problem seems to be finding a reason to blame breast
milk. While this is an oz or 2 below what is "normal" for this age, there
are no other red flags.

This subject is always very near and dear to me - my daughter was born at 9
lbs 7 oz and reached 18 lbs at 18 months of age. Now a perfectly healthy 15
year old in honors/ap classes in high school. This doesn't mean her weight
gain was ignored - it was looked at in the context of her whole health
picture. We did an extra weight check after 6 months and while it was well
below the 5 percentile line her growth curve matched the chart's growth
curve perfectly. It really makes me appreciate how lucky we were to have a
dr look at everything, skin turger/look, healthy bright eyes, she engaged
him when talked to, smiled, coo'd, rolled over, etc. She was small but
everything else showed healthy and active (she was getting calories to do
everything she was supposed to be doing, but not putting on weight). I
would suggest another ped if at all possible.

P.S. My daughter is still very thin (some size 0 pants are a little loose)
but I never would have been able to increase her feedings frequency or
length - she ate when she was hungry and don't you dare show her the breast
(or any food) if she wasn't and she still eats this way.
