Hello,
As far as I remember (I was 14 at the time and infant feeding was not a
priority) there was nothing special done in Chernobyl. I am pretty sure that
we would have heard if there was a general program that was supposed to
supply mothers with ABM. I also happen to know that people in the danger
zone were not medically treated or properly decontaminated. It was done on
purpose, to avoid stirring up panic. It took about a week until the
evacuation procedures began. Until then most people just lived as usual, not
realizing how bad the catastrophe was. There was even a parade on May 1,
that was televised. The soldiers, who went through the ruins wore no
protective gear. Just the usual summer uniforms.

P.S. We have moved to Israel on February 9Th. I was off the net until the
end of last week, it is wonderful to be back.
