I saw a Mom at support group with a 2 week old. She had already paid for a
home visit with a local LC who has her own business. She is doing WAY too
much (any is too much!) formula feeding, out of frustration. And isn't
pumping like she should. I hope that all of the moms in group were able to
make an impression on her. She has had trouble latching from day one. But
the baby does great on the right side now. So I reminded her, as I am sure
the other LC did that at least she can be a one sided nurser while we are
working on the left side. She claims she gets only a few drops out with
pumping on the left side, while the right gets out ounces. Her left breast
is slightly reddened from the 3-9 position. I helped her latch the baby on
that side and her milk NEVER let down. She has either been nursing or
pumping that side several times a day since the beginning. When she latched
the baby onto the right side her MER was almost instantaneous. I had her go
straight to her OB/GYN from group due to the reddened area. If you have
experienced this please email me privately since I read those emails more
quickly. As an LC who has been doing this for a while now I have certainly
encountered lots of moms with a drastically reduced supply on one side and
more than ample on the other. But I haven't seen a mom who is having a MER
only on one side. I know the supply is quite compromised on the left but she
said she has never been able to pump, from the beginning, anything but a drop
or two, doesn't even cover the bottom of the bottle while the other side is
doing great.

Thanks everyone for your input!
